Project overview
C2 is a residential development in Salford, part of the continuing regeneration of the area around Salford Quays and the wider city, where former industrial and dockland land has been redeveloped for apartment living with supporting amenity and commercial space.
The structural design of an apartment building of this type is driven by repetition: a floorplate that works structurally, acoustically and for the mechanical and electrical distribution can be repeated efficiently up the building, keeping formwork or frame cycles short and construction predictable. Stability is normally provided by cores and shear walls, with foundations selected to suit the ground conditions and any historic fill on the site. Robustness, fire and disproportionate collapse requirements govern the tying and continuity detailing throughout.
Carl contributed to the structural engineering design and delivery of the project while employed at Renaissance Associates, working within the consultant design team.
