Project overview
Ancoats Works is a residential development in Ancoats, the historic industrial district immediately north-east of Manchester city centre. The area's mill buildings and works are protected in parts and highly characterful throughout, and new residential development is expected to sit comfortably within that grain.
Projects in Ancoats routinely involve existing structures, historic foundations, former industrial ground conditions and boundary conditions shared with listed or locally significant buildings. The structural engineering therefore combines conventional residential frame design with appraisal of what is already on the site, decisions about retention or demolition, temporary support to retained elements, and foundations designed to avoid disturbing neighbouring historic fabric.
Carl contributed to the structural engineering design and delivery of the project while employed at WML Consulting, working within the consultant design team.
