Project overview
Swan Street sits on the northern edge of Manchester city centre, between the Northern Quarter and Ancoats, an area that has seen sustained residential and mixed-use regeneration. The development provides apartment accommodation with active ground-floor uses on a tight urban corner plot bounded by busy streets.
Residential schemes in this part of the city are typically constrained on every side, with limited working space, adjacent buildings of varying age and condition, and buried services beneath the surrounding highways. The structural design must deliver an efficient repeating residential frame and stability system while resolving substructure construction close to neighbouring property, and while allowing the ground floor to open up for commercial or amenity use.
Carl contributed to the structural engineering design and delivery of the project while employed at Curtins, working within the consultant design team.
