Project overview
Fellside is the combined heat and power installation that provides steam and electricity to the Sellafield site in west Cumbria. The boiler park forms part of the energy infrastructure supporting one of the most significant and heavily regulated industrial sites in the United Kingdom.
The structural steelwork comprises boiler house and plant support structures, pipework and duct support steelwork, and the platforms, stairs and access provision required to operate and maintain the installation. Structures are arranged around the plant, with thermal movement, equipment loads and maintenance access governing the framing. Working on or adjacent to a nuclear licensed site adds a further layer of requirement: access is controlled, deliveries and lifting operations are tightly programmed, quality and traceability expectations are high, and construction has to proceed without compromising the continuous operation of the wider facility.
Carl contributed to the structural steelwork engineering and delivery of the project while employed at William Hare Group. Work was associated with the Sellafield nuclear licensed site as wider experience context.
